SAU STATEMENT ON LITIGATION - 10 September 2009

We have previously issued a statement advising of the developments in the litigation before the High Court in Bloemfontein. The matter was heard before Judge Ian van der Merwe over two days (7-8 September 2009.)

The presentation of arguments in the case has been concluded. The court has to decide whether the individual congregations have the authority to litigate against the Church and whether the Southern Africa Union Conference has the authority to effect the restructuring process (territorial re-alignment) as envisaged in the SAU Business Session of 20 November 2005.

We prayerfully await the judgement to be handed down within the period of 2-3 months, which many vary depending on the amount of time the Judge requires to finalize his judgement.

Of significance is the fact that regardless of the anticipated judgement, the process and structures of the Cape Conference will not be affected. This is again worth praising the Lord for.

As we await the judgement to be handed down in the High-court case against the Southern Africa Union and Southern Africa Indian Ocean Division of Seventh Day Adventists, it is imperative for us as God’s church to seek His Spirit so that His will be done and that the outcome bring glory and honor to His mighty name.

We continue to pray that this experience will prove to be another act of God’s grace in our personal lives and as a corporate Seventh-day Adventist Church entity, mandated to carry the news of His salvation and soon return to a world in desperate need of Hope.
