 | 2008/10/25 Launch of ASI In Bloemfontein, 23-25 October, 2008 : ASI SA (Adventist Laymen Services and Industries) has now been officially launched in SA. Prof Sirayi was elected as the president, and the following people from the TC are also on the ASI SA Board: Piet Smuts (General VP), Eugene Moonsamy (VP for Finances), Jan Helberg (TC Rep). This is a lay person’s organization that gets church members who are business people involved in spreading the gospel. ASI leaders from Zimbabwe and Zambia inspired the 175 guests who were in Bloemfontein on Sabbath. The special guests from the USA were Donna and Denzil McNeillus, present and past chairperson of ASI respectively. The stories were most inspirational, showing what great things can be achieved when lay people get involved in ministry. One of the exciting projects was “one-day churches.” This is where a church is “pre-packed” in a container in the USA, and can be erected within a day. I obtained the DVD of how this works, and will let those who are interested have a copy as soon as it is available. The TC members seem to be very enthusiastic about launching ASI in our Conference too, and we trust that all of our pastors will give their encouragement and support. This is a fantastic way to give lay people a piece of the pie of ministry! Special thanks goes to Ellsworth Baxen who has been tirelessly marketing the ASI concept throughout our Conference. He was also very involved with the launching event in Bloemfontein. As a matter of interest, the TC was the only Conference that had a stall, and I was proud of our Conference. Lynn Rossouw created and set up the stall and she and Johan Jonker Jnr ‘manned’ the stall during the Convention. We were able to sell quite a few books and DVDs from the Evangelism Department.
